Underwater wedding is quite common in western countries but in a cultural country like India, a wedding is incomplete without colours, music, dance, costumes, decorations & rituals. The very first time, In this cultural country, a couple who are deeply in Love Nikhil Pawar and Eunika Pogran, undertook all wedding vows underwater, of 90 minutes. The Bride who is 23, Eunika, who is a Slovakian and the groom who is Indian Maharashtrian, celebrated their wedding under the Arabian Sea at Kerala’s Grove beach on Thursday. The ceremony took place around 4 meter down the water, in regards to which all arrangements were made with the aid of Bond Ocean Safari in Kovalam, where Nikhil is a diving instructor. In front of a picturesque backdrop, Nikhil and Eunika said their vows by holding up placards. Their friend doubled up as a priest.

The ceremony was celebrated with Christian wedding customs and rituals and rings and garlands made from sea-shell were exchanged. They took out their mouth breathing devices and kissed while the priest held up the placard says “You may now kiss the bride”. The groom, Nikhil made the offer for marriage beforehand on Monday.

He asked his girlfriend to accompany him for a dive and there he pulled out a placard with ‘Will you marry me?’ written on it. Eunika who is pursuing political science had met Nikhil few months ago, accepted the proposal. Also, the couple has undergone a two day training of scuba diving and underwater breath control, before they dived under the Arabian Sea for the wedding.

This uniquely beautiful couple will also commemorate the wedding in formal ways of Slovakia, few weeks later. The groom Nikhil here shares gleefully about this special idea of wedding: “We have always wanted to do something interesting for our wedding and Eunika readily agreed when I proposed the idea of an underwater wedding.

Being a regular traveler and a diving enthusiast, she quickly learnt everything and found no issues underwater. After we first met seven months ago in Kovalam, she went back to her hometown and returned a month ago. Wedding was not in the plan then, but since we were confident of taking our relationship to the next level, we decided to take the plunge.”
